YIIIE Architects has been invited by curators Li Yalun and Qian Mengni to participate in the fourth season of the New Art Makers initiative, titled Text and Art, jointly organized by the Power Station of Art (PSA) and the CHANEL Culture Fund. Our exhibition entry, Collecting from the Margins, centers on the theme of "text"—drawing from news reportage and fiction—to explore how text can function as both a creative medium and a mode of thought, giving rise to new narratives in contemporary art and cultural practice.

We are delighted to present two of our architectural and community projects based in Yulin, Chengdu: Alley Lane and CACP "Designing?".

On 1 August, YIIIE Architects' principal architects Zhang Tang and Zhou Yuhan will join a roundtable conversation titled Architecture as a Text, part of the New Art Makers program. We warmly invite you to participate either in person or online, and to join us in returning to the "nearby"—venturing toward the margins and the everyday.

Yiiie Architecture was invited by A8 Design Center to participate in "THE PLACE · Season II." We are pleased to present our architectural project, CPI W-18b, located by the lakeside at Luxelakes CPI in Chengdu.

CPI is a benchmark for non-standard commercial development in China, prioritizing site-specificity, climate responsiveness, and long-term operation over conventional efficiency-driven retail logic. CPI W-18b embodies this approach: the building opens outward on all sides, turning the lakeside and its surrounding trees into a public living room for commerce. A lightweight steel structure enables rapid construction and flexible use, while the mesh façade allows the building to evolve with the seasons—even falling leaves become part of its material palette.

The exhibition also features a physical model of the project, offering visitors a tangible glimpse into the symbiotic relationship between architecture and nature, and the possibilities of spatial flexibility in shaping a better future.

Yiiie Live | |A Longmenzhen Gathering at Yulin Song

On 4 July, Yulin Song · Design Space in Chengdu hosted a Longmenzhen gathering—a traditional local style of open, casual conversation among friends. There were no fixed seats, no podium, just an open circle. Yiiie Architecture was invited to join as a panelist, sitting with fellow practitioners to mark the closing of the phased "Plugin House" exhibition.

The conversation revolved around dwelling, the city, and the evolving role of architects in the coming era:

Who defines our living spaces?

When the power to define dwelling is returned to the public, what can architects still do?

What exactly are we pursuing when we speak of "good living"?

Our thanks go to Yulin Song · Design Space for fostering such a relaxed atmosphere, and to People's Architecture Office(众建筑)  for the invitation to be part of this dialogue. We will continue to explore the theme of "dwelling" and look forward to more gatherings that bring diverse voices to the table.

Yiiie Live | What Happens When You Give "One Square Meter" to Children?

This summer, Yiiie Architecture's principal architects, Zhang Tang and Zhou Yuhan, were invited by Lifeweek City Humanities (三联人文城市) to join a public experiment with primary school students across Haining—the "My One Square Meter: Haining Old Town Renewal Children's Creative Competition."

Students from across Haining, accompanied by their parents, will explore the old town district from Ganhe Street to Nanguan Lane, find a corner they believe "could be better," and submit creative urban proposals through observation, hand-drawing, and writing.

When "one square meter" transforms from a unit of measurement into a stage of trust, children's perspectives may well prove to be the most overlooked reference for old-town renewal.

The competition is now open for registration to all primary school students in Haining. Yiiie Architecture will serve as architectural design mentors throughout the process, observing and engaging with the young participants' work. We look forward to rediscovering the familiar neighborhood through children's proposals—and to seeing what happens when we hand over "one square meter" to them.

Yiiie Architects founder Zhang Tang joined the conversation at CPI’s “WOMEN POWER WHO IS SHE — VOL.4: Embracing Every Identity” on September 13, 2025. We gathered and connected on the grand steps, celebrating every role we embody.

-

The power of women is never confined to a single form. As more women rise and shine across diverse fields, they are reshaping not only individual industries but also society's perception of what women can achieve. This power is collective at its core. Through mutual appreciation and support, when women stand together, their collaboration and resonance amplify this strength beyond measure.
